Installation and configuration
To install the Valheim server, you need to specify additional parameters when creating a virtual server:
- Server name – under this name, your server will be displayed in the list of servers in the game.
- Password – the password of the game server.
After creating a VDS/VPS, it will take a few minutes to automatically deploy the current version of Valheim on it. The deployment status is displayed in the control panel. After the Valheim Dedicated Server installation is complete, you will receive a notification in the Control Panel and an e-mail to the specified contact e-mail of your account.
Getting Started
After the installation is complete, the Valheim server of the current version with standard settings will be started. You can connect to it using the server IP address and start playing Valheim without any additional actions.
While hosting Valheim, you can also import your own world to the Valheim server. To do this, upload the world files to the /opt/beget/valheim/saves/worlds_local directory. Note that the name of the world files must match the value of the WORLD variable in the .env file – the default is valheim_world. Then restart the server.

When you rent Valheim server, the files are located in the /opt/beget/valheim directory:
.envfile contains the container environment variables;- container configuration is located in
/opt/beget/valheim/docker-compose.yml; - banlist, whitelist, admin list and game world files are located in the
/opt/beget/valheim/savesdirectory.
Open the .env file in the /opt/beget/valheim directory. This file contains parameters such as world name, game server name, password, world backup settings, connection port, and others. After changing the settings, run the docker-compose up -d command to recreate the container.
In the variables file, change the UPDATE_ON_STARTUP parameter from 0 to 1 and recreate the container. The server will check and install updates on restart.
To restart your Valheim game server, you need to:
- Connect to your server via SSH.
- Go to the Valheim directory with the command
cd /opt/beget/valheim. - Run the
docker-compose restartcommand.
You will need the player ID to grant administrator rights to a player or to add a player to the permitted list. You can view the player ID by connecting to the server and pressing F2. The player's ID will be listed next to his nickname.
Go to the directory with the command cd /opt/beget/valheim/saves and add to the adminlist.txt file the ID of the player you want to grant admin rights to.
List of admin commands:
/ban– Ban a player./banned– List of all banned players./kick– Kick a player./lodbias– Change the distance of drawing objects. The parameter is a number from 1 to 5./save– Save the game./unban– Unban a player.
